The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) Washington District has pulled together best practices and outlined its methods and experiences for mutual collaboration and effective strategies to meet the green technology business and employment needs in Southwestern Pennsylvania.  This is a model that could and should be replicated in building consensus, collaboration and inclusion of workforce development initiatives in a local OVR District and multi-county and workforce investment area approach.

Delinquent Youth Learn to Earn

Youth returning to the community from delinquent residential placement face immense challenges.  The PA Academic and Career/Technical Training Alliance (PACTT), a project of the PA Council of Chief Juvenile Probation Officers, is focusing on improving academic and career and technical training in residential facilities, providing entry-level employment certification and training, and improving the linkage to programs and jobs in the community.  PACTT has worked closely with local workforce investment boards to provide subsidized work experiences and has developed an Employability/Soft Skills Manual, now used in delinquent facilities across the state. This manual will be shared.

Achieving Re-Employment: What We All Can Learn from New Americans

Magnolia B

Re-entering the workforce can be challenging. Join us for a practical session on how to help job seekers re-position themselves for success. Hear lessons from our work with New Americans – who may struggle to enter the workforce – and see how those lessons can be applied to other job seekers. For example, their skills may be outdated, there may be limited demand for their particular experience, or they may be unable to get employers to recognize their credentials.

Five ‘Mega Trends’ that WIBs Must Address

Magnolia C

In new legislation, workforce investment boards will be expected to pay far more attention to the development of strategic plans that tie workforce development to economic development in their local regions.  This session will examine five “Mega Trends” that boards must deal with if they intend to develop true strategic plans:  Demographic Change, Education and the Global War for Talent, Globalization, Technology and Sustainable Local Environments.  The audience will be invited to suggest additional trends for discussion at the conclusion of this session.

TANF Management by Results through CWDS
